National Walk Safely to School Day

The Way2Go program encourages all schools and families across South Australia to join with schools across Australia to participate in the 20th year of National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) when all Primary School children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school.

Regular walking to and from school can be built into your daily routine. It’s all about being active on the journey to and from school and leaving the car at home. Where distance or time is a barrier why not try parking further away from the school and walking in from there.

There are many ways school communities can celebrate and encourage participation including:

  • healthy breakfasts to celebrate those that walk to school
  • celebration assembly with special guests to encourage participation
  • raffle  for children who travel actively with the chance to win small prizes
  • house competition to  earn points towards their house trophy / cup
  • using the day to begin a series of regular active travel days (once a term / month /week)

The Way2Go families website has a range of resources to help families plan the active journey to school. Click here for more information.

Three weeks prior to the event all primary schools should receive a promotional kit including posters, stickers and flyers to help you promote this national event within school communities.
