Tender call for Budget Roads Stimulus Package upgrade to RM Williams Way

22 Jan 2016

The South Australian Government is calling for tenders for the upgrade of about six kilometres of the RM Williams Way between Clare and Spalding.

The RM Williams Way was one of the first roads targeted for stimulus funding and it has also been identified by the RAA as a priority for upgrading.

The works will include shoulder widening, pavement reconstruction, resealing the full width of the road and the installation of audio tactile edge lines, which create noise and vibration when a vehicle strays from the road.

Along with shoulder sealing, the edge lines improve safety by reducing the risk of vehicles running off the road and crashing.

The project is one of more than 185 road upgrades that will be funded through the State Government’s $110 million Budget roads stimulus package that will create more than 300 jobs over the forward estimates.

Together with ongoing funding, the Government is investing $532 million on road safety and maintenance over the next four years with $341 million identified for the regions.

The project, which is expected to start in March, will support around six full-time equivalent jobs during construction and tenders close on February 2.

The tender will be conducted in line with the State Government’s Industry Participation Policy which assists small and medium South Australian businesses to win government contracts.

The shoulder widening and pavement reconstruction should be completed by June, weather permitting and the reseal and edge line works are scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.
