Road safety grant applications close 13 September

27 Aug 2015

Community groups and organisations can apply by Sunday 13 September for road safety grants to encourage safer, greener and more active travel.

The grants provide an opportunity for communities to work together to improve road safety outcomes within their local area.

Each year, the State Government, in partnership with the Motor Accident Commission, provides $100,000 in funding for the community grants.

Projects can focus on different areas such as encouraging people to ride, walk or catch public transport, road safety improvements or replacing car journeys with technology.

The community grants program is keen to hear from organisations that have innovative ideas or fresh approaches to improving road user behaviour and increasing active travel like walking or cycling.

The previous round included a $7700 project to provide GPs, nurses and allied health professionals with resources to help people who are considering retiring from driving. The project provides practical information to the older person on their rights and responsibilities, enabling them to make informed decisions about when they stop driving.

Another project received $8330 to help engage community groups using the Tailem Bend Community Centre to replace car journeys with cycling journeys in the local area.

The organisations delivering these projects demonstrated a commitment to encouraging behaviour change and promoting more active travel within their local areas.
