Cycling safety to be improved with new Norwood bicycle boulevard

13 Mar 2015

The Beulah Road and Rundle Street cycling route is a popular one. However there have been a high number of crashes involving cyclists, a total of 41 injuries over the most recent five year period.

The project will provide safety improvements along Beulah Road to allow cyclists to mix safely and comfortably with local motor vehicle traffic. Bicycle lanes on Rundle Street, Kent Town will also be upgraded.

A key element of the project involves the installation of a new bicycle and pedestrian signalised crossing facility of Portrush Road at the intersection with Beulah Road, Norwood. This crossing will provide safe opportunities to walk or cycle across Portrush Road.

Construction work for the signalised crossing has started and is expected to be complete by May 2015, weather permitting.

To minimise traffic impacts, construction work will be undertaken as a combination of day and night works. Night works will be managed to minimise disturbance to the local community as much as possible and adjacent residents provided advance notice.

Temporary lane, speed and parking restrictions will apply during construction and motorists are asked to use extra caution when workers are on site.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure thanks local residents and road users for their patience.
