Safer South Eastern Freeway

07 Oct 2014

Safety along the South Eastern Freeway will soon be improved with shoulder sealing and safety barrier works commencing on Monday, 13 October 2014.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that a total of four kilometres of shoulder sealing will be undertaken on the Freeway east of Callington interchange.

Providing sealed shoulders will improve safety for motorists by reducing the risk of ‘run-off road’ type crashes.

The project also includes the installation of 2.7 kilometres of safety barrier at various locations within the section. Safety barriers protect road users from roadside hazards, thereby minimising the severity of vehicle accident injury and property damage.

The work will be undertaken between 7.00 am and 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. DPTI will make every effort to minimise the impact on road users during construction hours.

A 25 km/h speed restriction will apply when workers are on site, with 80 km/h speed restriction in place at other times until the works are complete.

During working hours, traffic will be restricted to one lane under temporary traffic signals while outside of working hours one lane in each direction will be available.

The works, which are expected to be completed by the end of November 2014, are being carried out at a cost of $530 000 funded under the Australian Government Black Spot programme.

DPTI thanks motorists for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
