Safety boost for the Spencer Highway

Tuesday, 18 March 2025

Works have begun on installing critical safety upgrades along the Spencer Highway as part of the State Government’s $10 million investment to undertake regional road safety treatments.

Shoulder sealing and Audio Tactile Line Marking will be installed along sections of the Spencer Highway between Wallaroo and Moonta to improve road safety for locals, tourists, and heavy vehicle operators.

More than 1500 vehicles travel along this section of highway each day, including 150 heavy vehicles. There were three injury crashes on this section of the Spencer Highway between 2019 and 2023, and these new upgrades will help reduce the risk of a serious or fatal collision.

As works get underway, the Spencer Highway will remain open with speed and lane restrictions in place.

The program of works will support 15 full time jobs during the construction period with the project expected to be completed in mid-2025.

This $10 million investment forms part of the State Government’s $98 million road safety package.

Road safety in the Yorke Peninsula continues to improve with the upgrades on Upper Yorke Road from Port Broughton to Bute and from Kulpara to Arthurton set to be completed this year.
