Horrocks Highway Upgrades
The Horrocks Highway Corridor Upgrade forms part of the South Australian Rural Roads (SARR) Package, which is focussed on upgrading the 245 kilometres length of highway between Wilmington and Gawler, to improve safety, connectivity and freight efficiency, whilst importantly creating jobs.
Works include shoulder sealing, pavement rehabilitation, new overtaking lanes and overtaking lane extensions, bridge upgrades, safety barrier, Audio Tactile Line Marking (ATLM) and improvements to the Gladstone rail corridor and level crossing.
This $82.2 million dollar project is jointly funded (80:20) funded by the Australian and South Australian governments.

Horrocks Highway level crossing
Upgrades to the Gladstone rail corridor and level crossing to address extended periods of flashing rail signals whilst rail movements occur near the Horrocks Highway level crossing.
Second quarter of 2022
Between Wilmington and Templers
Road safety improvements including shoulder sealing, pavement rehabilitation, safety barrier upgrades, directional signage replacements, centreline treatments and audio tactile line marking.
Between Gladstone and Goyder Highway, and between Murray Town and Wirrabara
Installation of safety barrier at various locations.
Between Templers and Roseworthy
Sealing of local road approaches.
Between Melrose and Wirrabara, between Goyder Highway and Yacka and between RM Williams Way and Clare.
Installation of Audio Tactile Line Marking.
Improved Road Lighting.
Between Wirrabara and Yacka
Approximately 28km of shoulder sealing.
RM Williams Way junction to Clare
Approximately 8km of shoulder sealing and pavement rehabilitation.
Clare to Undalya (south of Auburn)
Approximately 27km of shoulder sealing and pavement rehabilitation.
Melrose to Murray Town
Approximately 8km of pavement rehabilitation
Undalya to Giles Corner
Approximately 18km of shoulder sealing and pavement rehabilitation.
Stone Cutter Road junction to Bungaree Road junction (near Rochester)
Approximately 9km of pavement rehabilitation and shoulder sealing.
Following the completion of re-sealing and pavement rehabilitation works speed restrictions remain in place on the newly resurfaced section of road to enable excess bitumen on the new surface to be worn to a safe texture level (this is in relation to the skid resistance of the road surface), prior to the posted speed limit being reinstated.
