Intersection of Onkaparinga Valley Road, Nairne Road and Junction Road, Balhannah

About the project

We are delivering the Adelaide Hills Productivity and Road Safety (PRS) Package to upgrade key strategic arterial roads in the region. The road improvements will support economic growth, improve road safety and increase fire resilience. The $150 million initiative is jointly funded by the Australian Government (80%) and South Australian Government (20%) over five years.

We will be constructing a single-lane roundabout at the Onkaparinga Valley Road, Nairne Road, and Junction Road intersection in Balhannah to improve safety at this location.

The construction of a roundabout was selected as the preferred treatment, as it achieves:

  • increased safety for all users of the intersection
  • improved traffic movements through the intersection
  • new and upgraded pedestrian crossing facilities
  • improved footpaths for better access around the intersection

Key treatments

These treatments will improve safety and traffic movements throughout the intersection:

  • new roundabout featuring a mountable kerb to facilitate heavy vehicle movements
  • construction of pedestrian refuges and access ramps
  • upgraded lighting
  • new line marking
  • new asphalt, kerb and guttering

We have now finalised our design, which was informed by community insights, site surveys, and environmental and heritage assessments.
