About the project

We are upgrading the Barrier Highway between Cockburn and Burra. These upgrades will improve safety and freight efficiency and support regional economic growth.

Extending approximately 305km, this section of Barrier Highway passes through the townships of Olary, Yunta, Terowie, Hallett and Mount Bryan.

This work is expected to start in late 2025.

What's happening

The Barrier Highway’s junctions with Main Street and Whyte Road, in Yunta and Whyte Yarcowie, respectively, will be upgraded to enable future provision for use by Performance Based Standards Level 3B heavy vehicles (up to 42-metre-long double road trains).
