Major earthworks at Southern Interchange - November 2017
The Northern Connector Project has ramped up in preparation for the new six lane, 15.5km non-stop motorway, which will provide an unimpeded journey from Gawler to Regency Park.
This drone footage shows the major earthworks that have taken place at the Southern Interchange with over one million tonnes of fill being placed to date.
The earthworks are progressing well within this area adjacent to the Port River Expressway, for the construction of new road embankments for the $885 million Northern Connector project.
Works in the Barker Inlet Wetlands are being closely monitored and are being designed to ensure flora and fauna is protected and managed.
The Southern Interchange will link the Northern Connector with the Salisbury Highway, Port River Expressway and South Road Superway.
The Northern Connector will then continue through the salt pans before joining with the Northern Expressway. Interchanges along the way will provide connections with Bolivar Road, Waterloo Corner Road and Port Wakefield Road.
