Marino Rocks Greenway

The 15km long route extends from the Adelaide Parklands to the Coast to Vines Trail at Marino Rocks. Users can continue to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital via the Anzac Highway / West Terrace path or to Willunga via the Coast to Vines Trail.

The alignment follows the Seaford railway line and provides more direct access to stations for local residents.

Major works have been completed including several new shared use paths along the railway and the route is open for use. Remaining works, including wayfinding signage, are expected to be completed by mid 2015.

Project status

New Adelaide Showground Station underpass, Keswick


Status: Completed (November 2014)

The new underpass of Anzac Highway and Greenhill Road is an important link in the Greenway, allowing people riding and walking to bypass a busy intersection.

The underpass improves access to the Adelaide Showground station and provides a cycling connection between the Southern suburbs and the City. Works were completed as part of the Adelaide Showground Station Project.

Improvements included the construction of a sealed bitumen and concrete path, installation of post and sleeper retaining wall, minor vegetation removal, installation of LED path lighting, excavation of slopes to align the new path and relocation of the billboard south of the Anzac Hwy bridge.

Extension of Showground path to Leader St, Wayville

Status: Completed (March 2015)

A new 45m long section of path fixes a gap in the Greenway route. The new section extends the existing shared use path adjacent to the Adelaide Showground to Leader St. Previously, people using the Greenway had to ride or walk through the Showground car park. Works included asphalt overlay of the car park as well as new lighting, fencing and kerbing. The new path was built as part of the Rail Revitalisation Project with significant co-operation from Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society.

New Greenhill Road crossing and Johnstone Terrace link, Wayville

Status: Completed (August 2011)

The crossing signal links the Marino Rocks Greenway to the Adelaide Parklands Trail and provides pedestrian access to parking for events at the Adelaide Showground.

The project improved safety at the intersection of Greenhill Road and Johnstone Terrace - historically a Black Spot - by extending the median and installing new u-turn bays.

Improvements also included upgraded street lighting on Greenhill Road and minor landscaping works.

Sealed shared use path through Forestville Reserve

Status: Completed

The path from Nichols St to Nairne Tce was widened and sealed. Works were completed as part of Goodwood Junction rail underpass construction and in consultation with City of Unley. Existing path lighting has been upgraded with LED luminaries.

New shared use path linking Lyons Parade with Cromer Parade, Millswood

Status: Completed (January 2014)

A 3m wide shared use pedestrian/cycle path with lighting links Lyons Pde with Cromer Pd for residents and commuters walking and cycling, eliminating the existing zigzag in the Greenway route to Oakley Ave.

New shared use path from Emerson station to Clarence Park station, Black Forest

Status: Completed (November 2013)

A new 3m wide shared use path in the railway corridor is one of the most significant sections of the Greenway route. The new path links Emerson Rd to Canterbury Tce, allowing local residents more convenient access to the Emerson and Clarence Park train stations as well as a more direct cycling route along the railway line instead of zig zagging along Dryden Rd, Gordon Rd and Byron Rd. Improvements include:

  • new smooth bitumen shared path with line marking
  • improved safety by installing energy-efficient LED light fittings with consistent lighting levels
  • wider and more attractive walking and cycling and walking access to the path landscaping opportunities at path entrances and new railway fencing
  • upgraded pedestrian mazes at Cowper Tce to Homer Tce and Dryden Rd to Gordon Rd
  • better pedestrian access to Clarence Park station from Canterbury Tce
  • removing the existing elevated footpath along Canterbury Tce

New crossings and shared use path at South Road / Cross Road intersection, Black Forest


Status: Completed (August 2011)

A shared use path was built from the intersection of Emerson Rd with South Rd to the intersection of Railway Tce with Cross Rd and included a two-stage signalised crossing of a major arterial intersection.

Works included a pedestrian and cyclist refuge, widened footpaths and upgraded ramps.

New shared use path at the Edwardstown railway station

Status: Under construction (Completion anticipated July 2017)

A new 3-4m wide shared use pedestrian/cycle path with lighting will extend from Castle Street to De Laine Avenue, eliminating a dog leg from the Greenway route

Railway Terrace Streetscape Improvements, Ascot Park

Status: Completed

The City of Marion Railway Terrace Streetscape Project completed the Greenway route from Sixth Av to Daws Rd

Improvements include:

  • 3.0m shared use path alongside the rail corridor
  • 1.8m wide footpath on the opposite side
  • Solar lighting
  • Street trees and water-sensitive urban design
  • Cobblestone paving
  • Indented parking bays
  • A station plaza at the Ascot Park railway station

The project was partially funded by a State Government Open Space grant.

New crossings and shared use path between Marion Road and Daws Road, Mitchell Park


Status: Completed (August 2011)

New signalised crossings on Marion Road and Daws Road provide a safer and more attractive link between Minchinbury Terrace and Railway Terrace.

Works involved building a four metre wide asphalt shared walking and cycling path with lighting along side the Noarlunga rail line between Marion Road and Daws Road.

Landscaping included benches, bike racks, drinking fountains, paving and plantings. Mural work on fence along the path between Marion Road and Daws road has been completed. Works also improve access between the local community, Park Holme Shopping Centre, Hamilton Secondary School and the, Marion and Ascot Park train stations.

New River Sturt bridge and Oaklands Estate Reserve shared use path, Oaklands Park


Status: Completed

Works included a new shared use path bridge over the River Sturt along with a new path in Oaklands Estate Reserve linking the Greenways route following Minchinbury Tce, Marion and Murray Tce. The maze crossing of the Seaford railway was also improved.

Status: Completed (May 2015)

Existing footpaths adjacent to Oaklands railway station on either side of Morphett Rd are being widened to accommodate people walking and cycling.

New Singleton Road crossing, Kingston Park

Status: Completed (July 2012)

A pedestrian and cycling crossing of Singleton Rd was constructed in partnership with the City of Holdfast Bay to connect Sherlock Rd cul-de-sacs.

These works included the construction of a sealed bitumen ramp for cyclists, signage, and landscaping improvements to provide a better line of sight to the top of the Singleton Rd crest over the railway.
