A Friday Note - 20 May 2016

Dear all

Safety walks are now an integral part of our department.  If your area has not had a safety walk this month please advise me.

Still on safety, another success story from the Way2Go program. The Gilbert Street zebra crossing is now a reality thanks to a long-running partnership between the department, Sturt Street Community School and Adelaide City Council. The project has been hailed as international best practice, read more here.

CUSTOMERS

Everything we do needs to keep an external focus on our customers.  “What have we told our customers today?  What can we learn from them?” are simple questions and a much more interesting way to work.

PROJECTS

Focus has been on South Australia’s future transport needs over the past week. As the Federal Election looms, plans to roll out more tram routes and a commitment to extend the Tonsley rail line to Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University have dominated conversation.

The Civil Contractors Federation also hosted an infrastructure conference in Adelaide this week to thrash out ideas. We must have vision and innovation to ensure Adelaide is prepared for the future, population growth and ever-increasing freight volumes. It is an exciting time to be working in this area.

SUBMARINES

The CEO of Premier and Cabinet has given a spell binding presentation on the opportunities for all of SA.  Watch this space.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Adelaide Metro staff recently swapped the transport network for the classroom, with a visit to Mitcham Girls High.

The Office for Recreation and Sport drew a large crowd for its annual diversity conference. Sport has a way of uniting people from all walks of life and this is a great example of that.

The department was involved in another important event this week, hosting a table at a breakfast to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

WELL DONE

Some excellent community feedback about the work of our people on construction of a roundabout on Adelaide Road at Victor Harbor. It just goes to show the vital connection we have with the community on projects both big and small.

Have a good weekend
