International recognition

DPTI’s On the Right Track program, which offers help and encourages Indigenous Australians to obtain their driver’s licence, was recently placed in the international spotlight.

Speaking at the Global Ministerial Road Safety Conference in Stockholm, the Deputy Secretary of the federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, Pip Spence, highlighted the great success the program is achieving.

Ms Spence talked about the impressive growth of licence holders from 17% to 34% over two years and highlighted that this was not just a road safety issue but one of equality. All involved in this should be proud of what they’re achieving.

Recovery assistance

Our planning team is doing a great job in helping people who were affected by the recent bushfires and will now deliver a new Planning and Building Bushfire Recovery Program.

In collaboration with the Country Fire Service and key councils, DPTI has established a Planning and Building Assessment Recovery Unit to support affected communities. The unit will assist people with preparing and lodging applications, as well as through the assessment process from start to finish.

From the outset our goal has been to assist those affected by the fires and to find ways to streamline the task of rebuilding communities. This is an important step forward in achieving that goal.

Happy customers

As we work towards meeting future needs at our Service SA centres, our focus has been firmly on Human Centred Design, so it was pleasing to have that decision affirmed by positive feedback from customers this week.

Online comments left by customers as we introduced assisted self-service at Tranmere this week were generally enthusiastic and full of praise.

“It was really good not to have to wait in a line-up. The worker was really helpful,” wrote one customer. Others described the process as “pretty quick”, “easy to navigate” and just plain “good”.

The customer service provided was also highly praised. Well done.


Smooth operators

The team working on the Northern Connector Project should be congratulated on a smooth opening to traffic on the important stretch of the Northern Connector last weekend.

The new roadway certainly is welcome, with a string of positive comments seen on social media within hours of the road opening. Great work, team.
