A Friday Note - 18 December 2015
This will be my last Note for 2015 and I want to thank you all for your hard work over what has been an exciting and at times challenging year. I’ve been amazed at your ingenuity, impressed by your commitment and humbled at the way you’ve risen to each challenge.
Looking forward our focus will remain on customer service, safety, and excellence in everything we do. We have some exciting projects to deliver in 2016 as well as services to keep improving and a host of new initiatives to implement.
STAY COOL AND HYDRATED
The weather. It’s hot.
I have spent some time at the Railway Station this week with our frontline services staff, handing out cold water to train passengers. This is a small gesture that goes a long way toward helping our customers stay cool and hydrated during the current extreme weather.

They can help with information needs ranging from locating articles to detailed research requests.
FROM LITTLE THINGS …
Big things are growing at Kilkenny Station. I’m delighted to announce that 90 percent of the plants we helped plant in September have taken and are growing well. This is a huge improvement and we are getting very positive feedback from station users. Well done to the Rail Care team. We will have more on this initiative in the New Year.
BAKING A DIFFERENCE
Thank you for making the Christmas bake sale to help people affected by the Pinery Fire a sweet success. We were able to raise over $540 to help those affected by the fire. If you would still like to make a donation you can do so through the Pinery Appeal page.
To date our reform team has facilitated eleven workshops across four Directorates of the Department, and 105 staff from diverse backgrounds and work areas have been involved in identifying issues and working towards solutions through the workshops.
After more than 25 years in Government - 13 of those years with DPTI, Vicki Seaman is retiring and set to embark on new adventures. Vicki spent 12 years as Unit Manager, Non-Infrastructure Projects, and the past year as Acting General Manager, Information Services, shaping the direction with which we move forward as part of the People and Business Division and as an agency with the services we provide. Vicki’s last day is January 8. We wish Vicki all the very best.
We would like to welcome Anne Alford who will start in the new year as General Manager, Operations, within Safety and Service, reporting to Paul Gelston. Anne will initially have oversight of our public transport operations for buses, taxis, trams and trains. Many of you will know Anne from her time with Treasury and Finance and her current role on our Portfolio Management Committee. Anne brings a wealth of experience and a fresh outlook. Anne will start with the department on January 11.
Performance Support Services has hit a major milestone in transitioning staff this week. In addition to the employees that were transitioned like for like in October, employees that are being transitioned into ongoing positions have been advised of their business area assignments.
As announced previously, Stuart Moseley will leave DPTI on January 22 to take on his new position as Deputy Director General with the Qld Dept of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning. At this stage I do not intend to fill Stuart's role, but will take this opportunity to foster synergies and continuity by aligning existing sections within other directorates of the Development Division. All sections currently within Stuart’s directorate (State Valuation Office, Land Boundaries, Office of Local Government, Legislation Reform and Management, Strategic and Development Planning) will remain intact, but will report to different General Managers.
The Development Division Executive are working through the options and an announcement will be made before Stuart leaves. If you have any thoughts on how we could get the best business outcome by realigning existing sections, please feel free to provide feedback to Andrew McKeegan.
With Vicki Seaman retiring, there will be some changes in the People and Business Division. Information Services will merge with Customer Experience with an exciting opportunity to focus on our customers and citizens and support the direction for innovative digital services.
The Freedom of Information, Ministerial and Departmental and Parliamentary Coordination teams led by Megan Butler will move to the Central Administration Unit.
Information Services senior managers will report to Sam Rodrigues and all other current reporting arrangements and structures within Information Services and Customer Experience will remain the same.
Richard Hill will be our Chief Technical Officer, a position established to guide the technical integrity of DPTI’s information systems and infrastructure.
Civic Trust Awards
The 2015 Civic Trust Ceremony was held at the Old Chamber in Parliament House last Friday and our Department was recognised for several key achievements and received four awards. General Manager Asset Management, Graeme Brown is pictured below accepting the Bob Such Award for Social Benefit, for work in conserving State heritage listed buildings.
A resident of Park Terrace wrote in recently to thank our project staff for their ‘exemplary conduct’ in dealing with the issue of noise buffering on a major project. Customer service is a huge part of our project delivery work, and I want to recognise our project staff that display courtesy, sensitivity and respect in their dealings with residents.
I wish you all a relaxing and enjoyable break with your families and friends and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.
