Safety will soon be improved at the intersection of One Tree Hill Road and Kersbrook Road at Humbug Scrub with works to begin on a new roundabout.
The new roundabout was made possible through the funding provided by the Motor Accident Commission.
Previous analysis identified that many of the crashes at this intersection were because vehicles were failing to give way.
An investment of $3.8 million will be made to build the roundabout. The aim is to minimise the risk of vehicles failing to stop at the intersection and therefore, reducing the number of right angle crashes and rear end crashes.
Between 2010 and 2014 there have been 12 reported crashes at this intersection, resulting in five serious injuries, six minor injuries and one fatality.
Other improvements will include new road lighting, advance signage on all approaches to the roundabout and reducing the speed limit to 80 km/h.
Motor Accident Commission CEO Mr Aaron Chia said the investment in the roundabout and other road improvements would provide a safer environment for all road users.
"Safer roads are a vital part of the State's commitment to improving road safety and reducing road crashes and trauma," Mr Chia said.
Member for Napier Jon Gee said the intersection provided a vital link with Kersbrook, Gawler, Elizabeth, Salisbury, Golden Grove and Humbug Scrub.
"I am very pleased that my lobbying on behalf of the community has been successful and that a safer intersection will be delivered," Mr Gee said.
Speed and lane restrictions will be in place during construction and motorists are requested to use extra caution when workers are on site.
Preliminary site works will start in mid-November 2015. Major road works will start in January 2016 and be completed by June 2016, weather permitting.

Safety will soon be improved at the Angle Vale Road intersection with Curtis Road and McGee Road at Penfield Gardens.
