To reduce road trauma and help you get home safely, we’ve reduced the speed limit on more rural roads.
Look out for changed road signs on rural roads within 100 kilometres of Adelaide and on the Yorke Peninsula. Remember, 100 km/h is the default speed limit on rural roads unless otherwise signed.
The Stars on Cars safety ratings campaign has been extended, with a further 20 new car dealerships joining the successful road safety program.
The State Government’s Road Safety Strategy 2020 released today targets speed limit reductions on more rural roads within a 100 kilometres radius of Adelaide as one of the key initiatives to bring down the road toll by at least 30 per cent by the end of the decade.
New and important reminders for our overseas visitors on driving rules in South Australia are now in place. A series of stickers to be placed inside hire cars and brochures to remind international drivers to keep to the left hand side of the road are in distribution.
Motorcycle safety in the Adelaide Hills is further being improved with the extension of a motorcycle barriers trial along Gorge Road this month. The new barriers are designed to absorb energy during impact and deflect a rider away from the impact point. Shielding riders from hitting roadsides hazards.
The draft strategy sets a target to reduce serious casualty trauma by at least 30 percent by 2020. Towards Zero Together represents the whole South Australian community working together to address the deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

Stars on Cars is a partnership between the Government of South Australia and participating new car dealers promoting 4 and 5 star ANCAP rated vehicles.
The Stars on Cars program was officially launched by the Minister for Road Safety Tom Kenyon, and ANCAP Chair Lauchlan McIntosh on Tuesday 1 March. In attendance at the breakfast gathering were a number of participating dealers and key stakeholders, including MTA Executive Director John Chapman and Road Safety Advisory Council Chair Sir Eric Neil.
The launch was a resounding success, generating a large amount of media coverage, including bulletins on the evening news of channels 7, 9 and 10. This media exposure accompanies the substantial advertising campaign that has begun in the Saturday Advertiser and will continue for the length of the initial program.
With the new school year begun, motorists are being urged to take extra care when travelling through school zones. A 25km/h speed limit is enforced in signed school zones. School zones improve safety outcomes for school children by limiting vehicle speeds.
