Weekend closure of O’Sullivan Beach Road Bridge at Southern Expressway, 18-19 May 2013

O’Sullivan Beach Road will be closed at the Southern Expressway bridge from 1pm Saturday 18 May 2013 until 8pm Sunday 19 May 2013.

The closure will be in place to complete the final works for the duplication of the bridge such as line-marking and installation of guard rail, lighting and the bridge expansion joint.

During the closure, traffic and pedestrians will be detoured via Brodie and Aldershot Roads to Flaxmill and Sherriffs Roads. All detours will be clearly marked.

Advanced warning signs will be used to notify road users of this weekend closure.

Elizabeth Road bridge, Christies Downs, 09 May 2013

Unfortunately there will be a further delay to the completion of extension works to the Elizabeth Road bridge. The expected opening date for the Elizabeth Road bridge is now mid June 2013.

The project team apologises for the inconvenience and impact this may have on all road users.

Pedestrian bridge closures, 09 May 2013

Unfortunately there will be a further delay to the completion of the pedestrian bridge works. The expected opening date for Glenhelen Path and Poznan Path pedestrian bridges is now mid July 2013 and Perry and Peppermint pedestrian bridges in late June 2013.

The project team apologises for the inconvenience and impact this may have on all road users.

Southern Expressway duplication reaches halfway mark, 02 May 2013

Work on the $407.5 million Southern Expressway duplication has reached the halfway mark with the project’s focus shifting from excavation to laying the road surface.

Southern Expressway - extended inter-peak closure, 29 April 2013

Motorists are advised of the following traffic changes for the Southern Expressway to facilitate bridge works, earthworks, haulage and safety barrier installation.

From Monday, 29 April through to the end of July 2013, the Southern Expressway will close from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm weekdays. There will be no restrictions to the Southern Expressway during morning and afternoon peak times.

Sherriffs Road interchange works for Southern Expressway, 22 April 2013

Work to modify the Sherriffs Road Interchange will be undertaken from late April 2013 until December 2013, as part of the $407.5 million Southern Expressway Duplication project.

Flaxmill Road traffic restrictions 08 April to mid May 2013

Traffic restrictions will be in place on Flaxmill Road at the Southern Expressway from Monday 08 April until mid May 2013 from 6 am to 7 pm Monday to Saturday.

These works will enable construction vehicles to cross Flaxmill Road at the expressway as part of earthworks haulage works.

Reduced speed limits will be in place and traffic controllers will stop motorists as required for short periods to enable construction vehicles to cross Flaxmill Road.

O’Sullivan Beach Rd bridge over Southern Expressway duplication reopens, 27 March 2013

The O'Sullivan Beach Road bridge will reopen this evening after the completion of extension works carried out as part of the $407.5 million Southern Expressway duplication.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Tom Koutsantonis said reopening the bridge is a further step toward completing the expressway duplication.

Road bridge closures

The following roads are currently closed for bridge extension works with detours in place at these bridge locations:

Elizabeth Road, Christie Downs – May 2012 until mid June 2013
Moore Road, Reynella - July 2012 until mid June 2013
Majors Road, O'Halloran Hill – 13 March 2013 until November 2013

Construction works update

The majority of the roadside vegetation clearing has now been completed and major earthworks to prepare for construction of the new carriageway is underway along the full length of the project.
