Influencing the behaviour of road users is critical if we are to prevent death and serious injury on our roads. The reality is that if people obeyed speed limits, didn't drink or take drugs and drive, wore a seatbelt and were not distracted when driving - the road toll would significantly reduce. Towards Zero Together - South Australia's Road Safety Strategy 2020 supports the priority actions outlined in the Road Safety Action Plan 2011-2012. |
Education provides the information that influences road users’ decisions and continues to be a critical element in the State’s approach to reducing fatalities and serious injuries. Road Safety initiatives lead to safer behaviours with mass communication campaigns.
Communication and education strategies are based on targeted road safety research with an emphasis on valuing responsible behaviour and empowering individuals to achieve positive road safety outcomes.
Road Safety offences - expiation fees and demerit points were introduced to make drivers more aware of the dangers of inappropriate driving behaviours and to stop repeat offenders.
