P2 conditions

If you have a P2 provisional licence, you can be fined, get demerit points or lose your licence if you:

  • drive more than 10km/h over the speed limit
  • drive faster than 100km/h, even if the speed limit is more than that
  • get more than 4 demerit points
  • drive after drinking alcohol or taking drugs
  • drive any vehicle other than the type of vehicle listed on your permit
  • drive a high-powered vehicle if you are under 25 years old and don't have an exemption
  • drive without your P2 licence with you.
  • The conditions on learner's permits and provisional licences are strict, but they're like that because your chances of an accident are highest when you haven't had much driving experience.
  • Research shows that your chances of a crash are highest in your first year of driving on your P2 provisional licence. Be especially careful when you're driving on your own - without a qualified supervising driver - after getting your P2 licence.
