Recognition of New Zealand Marine Qualifications
The Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement was developed to reduce further testing of a person holding a New Zealand certificate of competency who wishes to work in Australian waters.
Currently this agreement recognises several certificates as shown below.

If the certificate you hold is not listed above or is restricted, you will need to contact a training provider to seek Recognition of Prior Learning or undertake a full training course for the certificate required.
Paperwork and payment
You will need to complete and send to us all the paperwork listed on our forms page for a new application, in addition you need to provide, Senior 1st Aid, Marine Radio and Elements of Shipboard Safety.
You can pay online, in person or mail your payment to us. If paying by mail please do not send cash. Fees are available on this site.
Maritime New Zealand will be contacted to establish the validity and currency of the New Zealand certificate and to ensure it is not a restricted certificate. If your certificate is restricted you will need to contact Maritime New Zealand to remove the restriction. We will not issue you with a certificate if the restriction is not removed.
On confirmation by New Zealand as to the validity of the certificate, we will issue you with certificate at an equivalent level. It will be restricted to South Australian waters only and for a maximum period of 5 years or to the expiry date of the New Zealand certificate, whichever is the lesser.
