Marine Certificates of Competency

You will require a Certificate of Competency if you are employed in a key role aboard a vessel and intend to be in command of a commercial vessel or to take responsibility for the vessel's machinery systems. When you are in command or hold a key role aboard a vessel you are responsible for the safety and efficient running of the vessel and crew.

There are several classes of Certificates of Competency depending on the level of command or responsibility. Each of these are discussed on this site.
