Are you a University student looking to complete paid work experience over the summer break?  Are you wanting to work in a diverse environment on a range of exciting projects?

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) is offering paid work placements for tertiary students who are undertaking an undergraduate degree in the following disciplines: architecture; business; commerce; economics; engineering (civil, electrical, environmental, general, geotechnical, mechanical, process/electronics, software, structural, transport,); environmental (waste management); finance; geography (arts); information technology (business analysis, communications, computer science, data science, electronic systems, service delivery, wide area networking); human resources (industrial relations, organisational development, policy development, work health and safety); law; marketing; physics; planning (urban and regional); project management; psychology; science and surveying.

Locations: Adelaide CBD, Bedford Park, Dry Creek, Hindmarsh, Kangaroo Island, Mile End, Norwood and Walkley Heights.

Essential Qualifications: The program is open to students undertaking an undergraduate degree. Preference will be given to students completing their second, third or fourth year of study.

Special Conditions: There are various opportunities within the 2016/17 program which offers placements over a twelve week period between 28 November 2016 and 17 February 2017.

Employment Declaration

Senior Signals Engineer

Location - Mile End

The Senior Signals Engineer provides railway signal engineering services to the department and whole of government. The role delivers departmental objectives by performing professional engineering work involving considerable independence and innovation in approach and a high degree of judgement.

The role applies knowledge and experience in selecting, developing and applying railway signalling and communication to ensure the asset management and performance of the signalling infrastructure is maintained and improvements occur. The successful applicant will be experienced in design, construction and testing principles; investigating and reporting on signalling and communication reliability issues; researching and reporting on options to improve signalling system performance; preparing estimates, drawings, specifications and tender documents; and providing technical support to maintenance staff. Knowledge of relevant Standards and Codes of Practice is required in the role.

Essential Qualifications: A degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering enabling eligibility for corporate membership to the Institution of Engineers, Australia or membership of the Institution of Railway Engineers, Australia.

Special Conditions: This position is classed as a Rail Safety Worker and is classified as a Category 3 Non-safety Critical Worker and as such is subject to periodic health assessments as per Rail Safety National Law.

Some work outside of normal hours and travel necessitating overnight absences may be involved.
